About Antique Iron

The iron is the headline. Antique Iron just makes it easier to buy.

Antique Iron is the iron-and-metal-salvage storefront under the umbrella of Governor’s Architectural Salvage—built for people who want the good stuff (and want to find it faster).

For more than 50 years, Governor’s has been Central Virginia’s destination for architectural salvage. Over time, one category grew into something truly uncommon: ironwork. We have miles of fencing, an ever-changing selection of gates and railings, and the largest iron inventory anywhere we know of.

Antique Iron exists for one reason: to make that inventory more accessible to more people—online and in person—without losing the expertise, scale, and real-world support that comes from being part of an established, working salvage yard.

What you’ll find here

Antique Iron specializes in antique and reclaimed ironwork, plus select metal salvage that pairs naturally with architectural projects.

Inventory changes frequently, but you’ll commonly see:

  • Wrought iron fencing (sold as panels/sections or in larger quantities)

  • Gates (garden, pedestrian, driveway/property)

  • Railings, balusters, posts & architectural details

  • Iron hardware & hard-to-find pieces

  • Cast iron elements and industrial metal pieces

  • Metal salvage, including items like steel windows and related architectural components

If you’re restoring a home, building a commercial space, or creating something custom for a client, this is where “impossible to source” often becomes “found it.”

Who we serve

We built Antique Iron for people who need real materials—not replicas—and who value durability, character, and craft:

  • Contractors & builders

  • Designers & architects

  • Commercial projects (restaurants, retail, hospitality, mixed-use)

  • Homeowners who want authenticity and long-term value

Whether you’re matching a historic look or creating something bold and modern, our inventory gives you options you won’t find at a typical salvage shop or a big box store.

Online + in person at Governor’s (and why pickup matters)

You can shop Antique Iron online, and you can also shop in person at Governor’s Architectural Salvage in Mechanicsville, VA (5 miles outside of Richmond).

Because iron is often large, heavy, and awkward to ship, pickup is frequently the smartest option—financially and logistically. Many items will be marked as pickup-only or will require a shipping conversation before purchase.

If you’re local (or can arrange transport), the best way to shop is often:

  1. Browse online to narrow it down

  2. Visit in person (or call) to confirm details

  3. Load it up and get building

Condition, transparency & “as-is”

Because salvage is one-of-a-kind by nature, all pieces are sold “as is / as you see them.” We photograph and describe items as accurately as possible, and we’re happy to answer questions before you buy.

Have measurements? Send them. Not sure what you need? Tell us what you’re building and we’ll help you think it through.

Fabrication & customization (case by case)

Through Governor’s Architectural Salvage, we can offer fabrication or customization for ironwork on a case-by-case basis.

If your project requires modification, repair, or custom work, call us to discuss what’s possible:
